“March Madness” was first coined by Henry V. Porter in 1939 when writing about the Illinois High School Association basketball tournament to describe the fan frenzy leading up to the games. CBS Broadcaster Brent Musburger had heard the expression and began using it in 1982 during live coverage of the NCAA Tournament. The rest is history.

UCLA with 11, 10 of these during a 12 year period between 1964-1975

What Men’s team was the lowest seed ever to win the NCAA Tournament?

What is the highest score in March Madness history?

The highest scoring game in NCAA tournament history was in 1990 when 11th seed Loyola beat No. 3 Michigan 149-115 for a combined 264 points! The game was even more dramatic given that LMU had lost star player Hank Gathers just two weeks prior in the conference tournament when he collapsed on the court and died.

Has anyone ever picked a perfect March Madness bracket?

No, because that would be an amazing feat. However, the longest verifiable streak of perfect picks was in 2019 when an Ohio man correctly made 49 correct predictions into the Sweet 16! That’s still pretty amazing. Check out some of the most recent bracket busters to date.
